NEPL Under 21 Representative XI
Towards the end of the 2000 season the North East Premier League Management committee decided to form an Under 21 team to represent the league in the KV Computers Cup.
Doug Hudson, then of Gateshead Fell and Mark Fletcher from Stockton were appointed Manager and Coach respectively.
Under their guidance the following season the league entered and won the
KV Computers Cup at the first attempt defeating the Northumberland & Tyneside League by 8 wickets in a one sided final at Whitburn Cricket Club in early September. Blaydon's Craig Simpson took 4 for 30 in 9 overs to earn him the Man of the Match and Norton's Kenny Gresham top scored with an unbeaten 55 out of the 109 runs needed for victory.
The following season
the league remained unbeaten retaining the KV Computers Cup with a crushing 133 run defeat of the North East Durham League in the final at Whitburn. Craig Symington from Norton scored a fine unbeaten 54 which earned him the Man of the Match award, in addition Mark Smith took 3-32 and South North's Matty Hall 3 for 7 with Norton's left armer Johnathan Keen producing the misery figures of one wicket for only 6 runs from his nine overs.
The league's stranglehold over the KV Computers Cup continued throughout the 2003 and 2004 when they beat the Durham Senior League in successive finals at Whitburn. In addition, 2003 heralded the inuagral game between the North East Premier League Under 21 team and
MCC at Gateshead Fell. In 2003 the Under 21s, augmented by
